Privacy policy
Last updated 1 October 2026
This policy explains what Videoess (videoess.com) collects when you use the site, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it and what you can ask us to do. We don't sell personal information and we don't show advertising. Questions or requests: privacy@videoess.com.
What you can do without an account
You can browse, search, watch trailers and free movies, and see where titles are streaming without signing in. For that we only process what any website needs to work, described under “Information collected automatically” below.
Information you give us
- Your email address, when you sign in. We email you a one-time code (and a sign-in link); there is no password. The first time you sign in, this creates your account.
- Your profile: a public username (we give you a neutral one such as “member123” until you choose your own), and anything you add yourself, such as a short description or your city.
- What you post: reviews and scores, discussions and replies, votes, recommendations and the notes on them. These are public and shown with your username.
- Your watchlist, which is private to you.
- Messages you send us, for example to privacy@videoess.com.
Your email address is never shown publicly.
Accounts carried over from the older Videoess sites
Videoess used to run separate sites (videoess.com, tamil.videoess.com, chinese.videoess.com, eng.videoess.com and pizzaflix.videoess.com). In October 2026 they were merged into this one. If you had an account on any of them, we carried over your email address, your username (where it fits our rules), the date you joined, your country, and the titles you had saved, so you can keep using one account. Passwords were not carried over: you sign in with an emailed code instead. If you'd rather we deleted the account, email privacy@videoess.com.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs. Like most websites, our server records each request: your IP address, the page asked for, the time, your browser's user agent and the referring page. We use these to keep the site running and secure (for example to stop abusive traffic) and delete them after about six weeks.
- Your approximate country, looked up from your IP address on each visit, to show where titles stream in your country and to respect country restrictions on some videos. This lookup is not stored. When you create an account we also save that country (and a time zone) on it.
- Cookies and similar storage, described on our cookie page: essential cookies for signing in and security, cookies that remember your settings, and, only if allowed, Google Analytics cookies.
- Analytics. If you allow it (or, outside the EU/EEA, the UK and Switzerland, unless you turn it off), Google Analytics records which pages are visited, roughly where visitors are, and what device and browser they use, so we can see what is useful. We have turned off Google's advertising and “signals” features for this site.
Why we use it (legal bases)
- To provide your account and the features you use, which you ask us for (performance of a contract).
- To keep the site secure, prevent spam and abuse, and fix problems, which is in our and our users' legitimate interests.
- Analytics cookies, with your consent where the law requires it; you can withdraw it any time.
- To meet legal obligations, for example when the law requires us to keep or hand over information.
We only email you to sign you in, and about your account if we really need to. No marketing without asking.
Who we share it with
We use a few service providers, who handle data on our behalf and only for these purposes:
- Our hosting provider, whose servers run the site and store its database.
- Resend, which delivers our sign-in emails (it receives your email address and the email).
- Google Analytics, if analytics is on for you (see above).
- YouTube, only when you press play on a trailer or free movie: the video then loads from YouTube's privacy-enhanced (youtube-nocookie.com) player, and Google's policies apply to it. Before you press play, nothing loads from YouTube except the preview image.
Film details come from TMDB and streaming availability from JustWatch (through TMDB). Our server fetches this information; we don't send them anything about you. When you follow a link to Netflix, Prime Video or another service, that service's own privacy policy applies.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people from harm, or as part of a transfer of the site to a new owner (who would have to respect this policy).
Some of these providers are outside your country, including in the United States. Where the law requires it, transfers are covered by safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Your account and what you post: until you delete your account or ask us to.
- Sign-in codes: 10 minutes. They are stored only in scrambled (hashed) form.
- Server logs: about six weeks.
- Google Analytics data: for the period set in Google Analytics, after which Google deletes it.
When an account is deleted, what you posted is removed or no longer linked to you, unless we must keep something to deal with abuse or a legal claim.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU/EEA and the UK, or India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act), you can ask us to:
- tell you what we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct it;
- delete it, including your whole account;
- stop or limit using it, or object to how we use it;
- give it to you in a format you can take elsewhere.
You can change your username and profile yourself on your profile page, and your analytics choice on the cookie page. For anything else, email privacy@videoess.com from the address on your account. We answer within one month. If you're unhappy with our answer you can complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Videoess is not meant for children under 13, and they shouldn't create an account. Where the law sets a higher age for agreeing to this on your own (for example 16 in some EU countries, or 18 in India), you need a parent's permission below that age. If you think a child has given us personal information, tell us and we'll delete it.
Security
The site only works over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, sign-in codes expire quickly and are stored hashed, and access to our servers is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we'll tell you and the authorities as the law requires if something goes wrong that affects you.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and for important changes we'll let signed-in members know on the site.
